Application Aims: Nutrition, Exercise, Health In Your Hand
Reviewer's Comments
Total Fitness for BlackBerry allows you to establish a nutrition and exercise plan that can help you optimize your health. The program makes it easy to enter food as you eat it and exercise as it’s completed so you won’t have to fill in logs, make manual calculations, or fuss with a program that’s too complicated to be of value.
The application takes your age, gender, height, weight, and general activity level into account to compute your Basal Metabolism Rate. By specifying your goal weight and the date you’d like to reach it, the program tells you how many more calories you need to burn than you consume daily. As you progress towards your weight and fitness targets, the program automatically adjusts your metabolism rate.
Included in the Total Fitness is an extensive database of foods with their calorie, carbohydrate, fat, and protein content as well as a long list of exercises and the calories they burn at a given intensity. Though the databases are substantial, you can also add foods and exercises to further customize the program to meet your particular needs. In addition to adding workouts such as running, walking or playing various sports, you can create and track weight training workouts designed for specific body parts with the exercise name, weight, and repetition data. When you enter the food you’ve consumed and the activities you’ve completed, the program calculates the effect on progress towards your weight goal. You can display the results as daily, weekly, or monthly charts and can also view the data in graph format.
Recognizing that fitness is more than just a matter of weight, Total Fitness provides a convenient platform for daily recording other measurements including blood pressure and key measurements such as waist, hips and arms.
Total Fitness for BlackBerry can be a valuable tool as you work towards improving your health and fitness. It is well worth its $29.99 price. We found it necessary, however, to rate its integrated databases and display graphics a bit lower than the rankings given to the Ascendo Fitness application which sells for the same price.
