Application Aims: Personal Information Security Vault
Reviewer's Comments
eWallet for BlackBerry offers an easy way to track of all of the myriad passwords, PINs, security questions, account numbers…the list goes on…that modern life requires of us. Though simple and intuitive, it offers government level 256-bit AES encryption to keep all of that handy information safe from access by unauthorized individuals.
You can use eWallet to set up information just about any way you’d like using an unlimited number of wallets along with the ability to nest information, essentially filing one wallet inside another, if you choose. The interface is exceptionally user friendly. You can customize credit card information to look like a credit card, for example. There are specialized templates for driver’s license and social security information, lock combinations, clothing sizes, prescriptions among others. Each record can have a distinctive appearance using over 40 built-in icons and more than 350 additional ones that can be downloaded. A search function makes it simple to locate specific records easily. You can choose to have PINs and passwords displayed or hidden with only asterisks visible.
Beyond its integrated encryption, eWallet can be set to shut down after a user-determined period of non-use and disabled after a user-defined number of incorrect password attempts. The program can generate random passwords for accounts and then store them enabling you to have strong passwords but liberating you from the burden of remembering them. For secure, online shopping, eWallet can enter encrypted payment information that can only be used by the intended merchant. There is an eWallet Professional Edition which, for $10 more, allows you to synchronize the information with your PC. Currently there is no capability to synch with Mac computers.
eWallet provides a solution to the modern dilemma of needing to have lots of sensitive information readily available but also keeping it protected from unauthorized users. The application can be customized to meet just about anyone’s needs and it makes entering and retrieving information easy. Its $19.95 price tag is a bit high but you get a lot of security and flexibility for the money.
