BlackBerry App World Will Be Launched at CTIA
It appears that Research In Motion, the makers of BlackBerry smartphones, will have quite a busy time at CTIA this year. They're already expected to make a few interesting announcements, but now it appears the long-awaited BlackBerry App World will be launched at CTIA as well, on April 1.
The details for the pricing of apps in the BlackBerry App World have been available for a few weeks now, but so far the site has only had a teaser image up and a link to register for updates. On April 1 the image will come down and we'll be able to see just what kind of apps developers have been working on.
Apple proved that app stores can be an excellent marketing tool for smartphone manufacturers. One of the biggest selling points for the iPhone is the varied functionality available through apps. Of course, third-party software for BlackBerry phones has been available for quite some time from sites like CrackBerry and Handango. But BlackBerry App World will bring another source of revenue to RIM, and if the apps are good enough, could be quite successful.
We'll be at CTIA to give you updates, and we'll keep track of the CTIA news on our tech news blog as the big day approaches.
