There are currently thirteen categories of personal and professional apps including games, social networking, personal productivity, news and weather, and others.


In all, there are about 1,000 programs available. Registered developers have recently been given access to the BlackBerry Software Development Kit (SDK) and the number of available apps is expected to grow as a result. By comparison, Apple's iPhone App Store offers about 15,000 apps.
